Research Data Management: Organization, Documentation, and Publication

We would like to draw your attention to an introductory course on research data management at one of our partner universities, which is also open to doctoral students from other universities in Thuringia. Detailed information on participation and registration can be found on the course website.

The proper handling of research data has been growing in importance for years and is now a requirement for many external funding agencies. The course offers a concise introduction to key aspects of research data management—from planning and collection to documentation, archiving, and publication of data.

A special focus is placed on the creation of data management plans as a basis for grant applications. In addition, helpful principles and models such as the FAIR principles, the 5S Data Model, and the 3-2-1 backup rule will be presented.

Among other things, the course will address the following questions:

  • Why is good research data management important?
  • What guidelines exist for handling research data?
  • How do I create a data management plan?
  • Which models and principles support practical implementation?
